Patricott Weekly Update: 1-23-2017

It’s been quite a ride!

First of all, thank you for stopping by, and thank you for your interest in Patricott.

It’s hard to believe that this project was just a feverishly imagined concept in late November. Here we are, though, two months later, with a functional platform, hundreds of businesses in our database, a small (but growing!) user base, and an incredible outpouring of support from the community.

Going forward, we’ll post our status updates here, although you are still more than welcome to contact us on Gab or through our support form!

Here’s the latest:

We’ve updating our Do Not Track policy so that the EFF and plugins that use the EFF should properly recognize that we are not doing ad tracking. This was done specifically to enable Privacy Badger and our extension to get along, but will likely have a positive impact on other privacy extensions as well.

Given the politicized nature of the legacy tech environment, we’ve decided to focus on porting our extension to userscript form. This means that you can install a userscript extension (Tampermonkey is our favorite) and then install our extension. The upshot is that we don’t have to worry about Apple (or anyone else) approving or not approving us. Don’t worry, though, we still have plans for native support for as many browsers as possible, we just want to get out as quickly as possible. Our revised target for having userscript support is the end of this week!

Brave browser support is coming! When the userscript version of our extension goes live, it will be easy to add that to Brave, but… We have an ad based revenue model (minimal, non-tracking, non-annoying) that we are pursuing long term, and we really want to honor the ad free spirit of Brave, so we are investigating the possibility of getting Brave publisher credit for our extension. This is a longer term objective, so while we should be ready for Brave by the end of this week, our “Brave native” extension will be a little ways out.

We are working on a “whole network” solution! Have a lot of computers in your family or workplace? Rather not update them all? Or are you one of those cool people that mostly uses your smartphone or tablet? We realize that our current extension does not work for all scenarios, and are working on a solution that can be implemented at the router level by tweaking a couple of settings. Stay tuned for more info!

Advertising… We’ve had a lot of questions about how to advertise with us, especially how can businesses advertise targeting specific boycotted businesses. We love this idea, and it is something we have talked about since almost the beginning. It will be a while before we open up our platform to third party advertisers (we want to make sure we get that right!), but if you have a product or service that you think would be a good fit with our audience (and your company loves this country and hates the globalists as much as we do), please contact us, and we will consider promoting you ourselves as part of our internal testing.

Finally, more than a few of you have reached out to us and asked how you can support us. First of all, thank you all so very much! The best way to support us, of course, is to use the extension, and to let other Patriots know so that they can use it too! Want to do more? We’ll be opening up a signup form for people who want to maintain boycott lists for us. Want to help out, but don’t have a lot of time? No worries, we’ll make it possible to donate to us directly as well.
